What feature would you design?

Instead of: “I would design feature XYZ”, because they have better ideas.

Approach
  1. List the steps a user takes through the Shopee app
  2. Next, told them the problems at each step
  3. Next, show that I observe users and so I am estimating the pain level in order to rank them
  4. Lastly, show experimental mindset for solutions- if my solutions fail, I can always try other solutions for the same problem Draw an SPP table if possible. Pause before you speak.
3 steps + problems at each step

There are many possible problems to solve for. In my typical journey on Shopee, when I open the homepage I may be overwhelmed by the number of ways to shop. Then, as I start searching, I may be struck by indecision, and finally as I check out, I may not be able to use the coupon that I really wanted to use.

pain

Next, among all three of those issues, when I observe my friends, they tend to have a lot of things in their carts, and it seems to be that step where they struggle to pull the final trigger. So I would build a feature that solved that.

even if these ideas fail, the problem does not disappear

I have a few ideas, for example give you discounts for an item that’s been in the cart for a while, or to send you reminders when the price of that item has dropped or it’s going to run out of stock soon. But which would work best? We’ll have to test them with users. If I had to guess, discounts will work best- my friends seem to always be excited by Shopee discounts.

What metrics would you measure

Avoid vanity metrics. They look impressive without actually improving the outcome for your users. Does your metric actually measure real value being created for your users?

Examples: “My event was attended by 200 students” “My club formed 2000 connections between students” “300 people signed up to my platform” “Conceptualised and launched XYZ-startup and got 500 students to signup” “Ran club of 2000 members, led exco of 50 people to launch 10 events”

Real Metrics: “Repeat purchase is at 30%” “Monthly recurring revenue is at $10k” “Subscription renewals are at 40%” “Number of students who got jobs specifically from my event was 10” “% of PME students who go on to get PM jobs is 30%” “Constantly getting scolded by irate customers and dealing with it with a positive personality, helping them patiently and diligently in any way I can”
